The story begins with the abduction of Jeff, an unsuspecting college rugby player. His friends the Ransom Brothers set out to find him, along with a bunch of other missing athletes, but the kidnapper has some surprises in store. Nick Ransom knocked out and taken prisoner. He is roped, gagged and carried off by Locke's henchmen for tests. He is forced through a grueling stress test, then gets thrown into a cold shower. Jeff is strapped to a table and subjected to Locke's experimental mind-control device. Under the influence of Locke's mind control, Jeff overpowers another athlete in the locker room and stuffs him in a laundry cart. Josh Ransom goes to his brother's rescue but ends up getting caught himself. Nick and Josh look for a way to reverse their buddy's mental conditioning, but in the meantime they have to keep him cuffed and gagged for his own good. Still under Locke's influence, Jeff plots his escape. Josh finally finds the trigger word that will reverse Jeff's brainwashing -- but will he be able to say it before he gets silenced? And just what does Locke have in store for his big brother Nick? Nick Ransom is strapped down and subjected to Locke's mind-control device, while Josh struggles desperately to get loose and bring Jeff back to his senses before it's too late. Locke's brainwashing turns Nick Ransom against his own brother as the scientist prepares to exact revenge on the young detectives who ruined his carefully laid plans.
